Seal Snorkeling in Cape Town with Animal Ocean is the most amazing experience you can have on your holiday. We are the seal snorkeling experts and are dedicated to getting you in the water.
Seal snorkeling in Cape Town happens on the Atlantic side of the Cape Peninsula at Duiker Island, Hout Bay. This island is not known for any Great White shark activity as it is surrounded by cold water (8C – 15C), shallow kelp forests and home to relatively fewer seals (5000) than colonies elsewhere on the coast. We have never seen a Great White shark on any of our trips and this is observation is echoed by the seal-viewing ships that have frequented the same area for over 30 years.
Cape Fur seals occur naturally on islands around the southern African coast and are found nowhere else in the world. Duiker Island in Hout Bay is home to 5000 Cape Fur seals and lies within the Karbonkelberg Marine Protected Area, part of Table Mountain National Park. These seals are not fed or trained, they behave naturally and interact with visitors on their own terms. This is a wildlife adventure that brings you nose-to-nose with playful and inquisitive wild animals in their natural habitat, and affords you the privilege of viewing them on their own terms.
Our snorkel center, in Hout Bay, has amazing facilities – hot showers, private changing rooms, free Wifi and coffee. Animal Ocean’s vessels take up to 10 seal snorkelers and will get you to the snorkeling site at Duiker island quickly and safely. Cape Fur seals are most active and abundant in the heat of Cape Town’s summer.

Such an incredible experience! So much cooler than just seeing the seals from a boat - swimming with them is amazing! The guides were also fantastic - they were so accommodating and really knew what they were doing. Definitely a must do while in Cape Town!
This tour was an absolute blast! The team at Animal Ocean was very accommodating, friendly, professional, and made sure we had an amazing time. I would definitely recommend booking a tour with them while in Cape Town -- it's definitely one you wouldn't want to miss out on!
A singular experience. Knowledgeable staff will take care of you every step of the way. Wet suits are provided. Hot showers are available after. And you can rent a GoPro camera if you don't have one of your own.
I've loved the experience! The water was cold but once you see the first seal all you can think is how to get close to them!
The beauty of Table Mountain, Lions Head and the Atlantic Sea Board coastline from the comfort of our kayaks is unrivalled. Dolphins, seals, penguins, Sunfish and occasionally whales frequent our Cape Town.
